It was obviously a thrilling match, with no certainty of outcome right until the final whistle and from that point of view, many will have enjoyed it. On the other hand, those tasked with improving the defensive side of the game for eith…

Messi comparisons ´crazy´, says Pedri after superb solo goal

Pedri says it is crazy to compare his goal against Galatasaray to one of the many scored by Lionel Messi after the young midfielder helped Barcelona overcome Galatasaray.

The 19-year-old levelled up in Thursday s Europa League last-16 second leg with an impressive goal before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck to earn Barca a 2-1 victory.

Pedri collected the ball in the opposition box, shimmied past both Marcao and Berkan Kutlu and then slotted past Barca loanee Inaki Pena.

It was a goal that had all the hallmarks of a trademark Messi goal in the famous Blaugrana colours, but Pedri could not see the comparisons.

The truth is I can t really remember the goal, I ll have to see it repeated, he told Movistar+.

I know Ferran Torres gave it to me and …

Montanier warns Rennes ahead Angers clash

Rennes coach Philippe Montanier warned the final hurdles are always the toughest ahead of his team s Coupe de France semi-final against Angers.

Montanier s side will host Angers on Tuesday for a spot in the Coupe de France final, which will be held in Paris on May 3, and Rennes will have to deal with a weight of expectation, as they are the clear favourites.

The pressure will also be on Rennes as they have not claimed a top-line title since 1971 when they won the Coupe de France, while their last trophy was from when they were crowned Ligue 2 champions in 1983.

Second-tier Angers have had a dream run, having only eliminated one Ligue 1 club Sochaux on their way to the final four of the cup competition.

Rennes, who sit 14th in Ligue 1, defeated Lille in the quarte…

The Leicester centre-back scored two first-half own goals to give Jurgen Klopp s side a victory that moves them just two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Liverpool were not at their fluent best, with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah wasteful in front of goal.

Paris Saint-Germain v Monaco: Champions out to end hoodoo in crucial title clash

VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE LEAGUE AND FRENCH FOOTBALL

There could hardly be a more crucial time for Paris Saint-Germain to get the Monaco monkey off their backs.

PSG have beaten Monaco just once in the league following Monaco s return to Ligue 1 in 2012.

And the men from the principality are causing Unai Emery s men particular distress this season, Monaco s hugely impressive form helping engineer the most compelling title race since Montpellier triumphed by three points.

It was Nice who surprisingly led the way at the mid-season break, taking advantage of PSG s struggle for …

Rummenigge agrees with Mourinho: Bayern are not a selling club

Bayern Munich are not a selling club, according to Karl Heinz-Rummenigge, who claimed players are only allowed to leave when they no longer have a key role at Allianz Arena.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho recently said the Old Trafford side are no longer in a position to sign whichever player they want, as clubs such as Bayern, Real Madrid and Barcelona will only sell the stars they do not require.

While some may point to United re-signing Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world-record fee, Rummenigge has endorsed the view of the Red Devils Portuguese boss, highlighting Bayern s improved global stature.

I can only agree with Mourinho. No club in the world is able to sign a Bayern Munich player with an ongoing contract if we do not want to sell, Rummenigg…

Mauricio Pochettino distanced himself from speculation he could swap Tottenham for Manchester United following Jose Mourinho s Old Trafford exit.

Mourinho was sacked by United on Tuesday after two and a half years in charge, the Red Devils sitting sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Pochettino has long been linked with a move to United after impressing at Spurs, who he joined in 2014, with his attacking style something many believe would fit the United philosophy.

There are a lot of rumours about my position as manager a…
